Electroluxchr(39)s presence in India dates back to 1982 when it acquired a 40% stake in Eureka Forbes Limited. However, it was the year 1995 that saw the company operating actively in India following a series of acquisitions - 51% equity in Electrolux Kelvinator Limited (erstwhile Maharaja International Limited) in February, and a major share in Intron Limited in December 1995.
Having set its feet firmly in India, Electrolux began introducing Indians to good and healthy living, launching the Premium Maxi refrigerators, the washer dryer with 100% drying facility and the fully automatic washing machine with 85% drying facility in quick succession. Electroluxchr(39)s position in India was further strengthened with the acquisition of the white goods arm of the Voltas Group. on October 1st 1998 and led to the formation of a new company - Electrolux Voltas Limited. The following year saw the refrigeration business of Allwyn blending with the already large Electrolux family.
Today, the company markets brands like Kelvinator, Electrolux and Allwyn. Together, these brands commanded a steadily growing market share of over 30% in 1999, catapulting Electrolux to new heights, making it the largest refrigerator company in India. The road ahead will see the company launching microwave ovens, air-conditioners, vacuum cleaners and other home appliances, keeping up its tradition of good and healthy living.
